Rep. Attoh-Wreh Hails Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Calls for Strengthened Bilateral Exchange

Freetown, Sierra Leone–The Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, over the weekend warmly welcomed a Liberian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh, Chairperson of the Women’s Legislative Caucus of Liberia, during a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and learning.

In his remarks, Speaker Thomas lauded the visiting Liberian lawmakers and used the occasion to highlight Sierra Leone’s progressive legislative approaches in advancing women and youth empowerment.

He described these measures as part of the country’s “legislative magic” that continues to drive inclusive development and democratic participation.

“We are proud of the laws and initiatives we’ve passed here in Sierra Leone that open doors for women and youth to thrive in public service and leadership,” Speaker Thomas said. “It is our duty as lawmakers to create the legal environment that empowers the future of our nations.”

The Liberian Parliamentary delegation paid a peer learning visit to Sierra Leone over the weekend.

During the visit, the Sierra Leonean parliament expressed hope that the visit would foster deeper collaboration between both legislative bodies, especially in areas of gender equality, youth inclusion, and capacity-building.

Responding on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Ellen A. Attoh-Wreh expressed profound gratitude to the Sierra Leonean Parliament for its hospitality and its willingness to share best practices.

The Margibi County District #2 Lawmaker praised the leadership of Speaker Thomas and his colleagues for prioritizing policies that uplift marginalized groups.

“We are truly inspired by the progress Sierra Leone has made,” said Hon. Attoh-Wreh. “This visit has been enriching, and we look forward to replicating some of these strategies back home in Liberia.”

She also extended an invitation for a reciprocal visit by members of the Sierra Leone Parliament to Liberia, underscoring the importance of continuous regional dialogue and exchange of legislative experience.

The visit, part of ongoing efforts to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and foster gender equity in governance across the region, is expected to result in closer collaboration between the legislative caucuses of both countries.

The Liberian delegation comprised of civil society actors, women NGOs, and lawmakers.
