Senate Pro Tempore Nyoublee Karnga-Lawrence has issued a strong statement condemning an alleged incident of rape involving a minor and Deputy Minister J. Bryant McGill at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The alleged act of Deputy Minister McGill has shocked the public and ignited calls for accountability at the highest levels.
Karnga-Lawrence described the incident as a “grave violation of Liberian law and a weighty abuse of the victim’s human rights and inherent dignity.”
Her statement underscores growing concerns over the safety and protection of minors within public institutions.
“I condemn RAPE in the strongest possible terms,” Karnga-Lawrence declared. “This alleged act of sexual violence demands urgent and serious attention from law enforcement and relevant authorities.”
She called for a “prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation into this matter,” urging law enforcement to treat the case with the seriousness it deserves.
The Pro Tempore emphasized the need to ensure justice is served, without bias or delay.
“Should there be probable cause,” she continued, “it should be followed by prosecution in accordance with the law.”
Her remarks reflect a broader push for stronger mechanisms to prevent abuse and protect vulnerable populations in government-run spaces.
