The Supreme Court of Liberia has suspended two judicial officials for one year without pay and benefits over serious ethical violations.
In a ruling issued on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Court announced the suspension of Judge Otavious Doe of the Sinoe County Monthly and Probate Court for breaching several judicial canons, particularly Canon 35.
The Supreme Court deemed his conduct unacceptable and a violation of the ethical standards expected of judicial officers.
As part of the decision, the Court ordered transferring all probate matters currently before the Sinoe County Probate Court to the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court in Sinoe County to ensure continuity in handling ongoing cases.
In a separate decision, the Supreme Court also suspended Magistrate Marvin Bah of the Paynesville City Court for similar ethical transgressions. The Court found that Magistrate Bah violated judicial canons and failed to uphold the principles of integrity and fairness required of judiciary members.
The ruling underscores the Supreme Court’s commitment to enforcing accountability within the judiciary and ensuring that judicial officers maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct. The suspensions, which take effect immediately, reflect the Court’s broader efforts to promote transparency and restore public confidence in the legal system.
The public has been advised not to conduct any business with the suspended officials, as they are barred from performing any judicial functions during their suspension. The Supreme Court reaffirmed its commitment to upholding justice and maintaining the integrity of the Liberian judicial system.
