The United Nations General Assembly is over, and President Boakai along with his entourage has finally returned home after a long trip to Canada and the United States.
The President described his trip as “successful” and claimed that more work needs to be done in Liberia to improve the lives of the people.
“We made this trip. We left from here. I am glad we are back. We went there. We asked for investments. I wonder whether people know the degree to which our people are suffering. Today, there’s nothing, no jobs. More and more people are being left behind today. It will take a long time to bring this country to a place where people are expecting. The system is not in place,” Pres. Joseph Boakai upon his return.
Speaking to a cross-section of his cabinet, President Boakai said his administration would get at those who are bent on doing the wrong things claiming that he is only afraid of God.
Speaking in Monrovia upon his return, President Boakai stated, “This trip that we made, it was a great trip. If people were honest to know what this country is in after 177 years, they would know we are working to address some major concerns. We don’t have roads. The people up country don’t even have drinking water. And you don’t understand the difficulties in that. We must build this country. You come from another part of the world; it is in place. Everything is in place. You come to this side, our country, it’s not in place.”
“At the UN, we had to speak about street children and the youth, and about progress being made. If we don’t straighten up this country and become responsible, we are not going anywhere. When God gives you an opportunity, he gives it to us to better the lives of the people. No matter what we do in this country, the government cannot employ everyone. If the government employs everyone, who’s going to pay?
At the United Nations, we had to report what we were doing here. We have to find investments. We have to build the capacity of our people to produce. We are doing that,” The President asserted.
