MONROVIA – The Principal of William V.S. Tubman High School, James Naplakposo Fallah, has expressed concern over the absence of scientific calculators for candidates sitting the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement issued Tuesday, Fallah noted that students were forced to write their Physics examination without calculators, despite a long-standing practice by the Government of Liberia and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to provide the devices to candidates.
He described the situation as troubling, especially as Mathematics examinations are scheduled to be administered with many students still lacking access to calculators.
According to Fallah, the failure to provide the essential examination tool places candidates at a disadvantage in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Geography, where complex calculations and technical exercises are required.
The Tubman High principal called on WAEC Liberia and the Government of Liberia to immediately explain the delay and outline measures being taken to ensure that students are not unfairly affected during the national examinations.
“The future of our students should not be compromised by the absence of a basic academic tool that has been provided in previous years,” Fallah said.
