MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Diehard Unity Party partisan Queen Johnson has called on Liberians to unite in the fight against illicit drugs, saying the growing drug problem is affecting families across the country.
In a statement, Johnson said many Liberians have suffered personal losses as a result of drug abuse and described the issue as one that should rise above political considerations.
“Drugs are affecting every family in Liberia. Some of us have lost our precious souls to this deadly virus,” Johnson stated.
She urged Liberians to view the fight against drugs as a national responsibility rather than a political issue, calling for collective support for efforts aimed at combating drug trafficking and abuse.
According to Johnson, opposition to efforts to fight the drug problem could only come from people who fail to recognize its devastating impact on Liberian families.
“Drugs are not something we see as politics; we all have to stand and fight it,” she added.
Her comments come amid heightened national debate over Liberia’s response to drug trafficking and growing calls for stronger measures to combat the illicit drug trade.
