Former President George Manneh Weah has paid tribute to the late Elder Elijah Tamba Bundoo, describing him as a close friend whose death has left him deeply saddened.
The tribute was delivered on Weah’s behalf by former Foreign Affairs Minister Maxwell Kemayah during the funeral service for Elder Bundoo, the father of former Executive Mansion Chief of Protocol Ambassador Finda Bundoo.
Kemayah told mourners that Weah had hoped to attend the funeral but was unable to do so. He said the former President had remained in regular contact with the family since Elder Bundoo’s death and had frequently called to check on them and follow the funeral arrangements.
“I bring you warm greetings from His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, the 25th President of the Republic of Liberia,” Kemayah said.
He added that Weah spoke with him again on Sunday morning and reflected on the bond he shared with the late Elder Bundoo.
“He told me, ‘He was my old man, and he was my good friend,'” Kemayah said.
According to Kemayah, Weah asked that his condolences be conveyed to Elder Martha Bundoo, Ambassador Finda Bundoo, Sir Bundoo, and the entire Bundoo family. He said the message was sent on behalf of both the former President and former First Lady Clar Weah.
“President Weah said to me that he, too, is bereaved,” Kemayah told the congregation.
Kemayah said Weah’s relationship with the Bundoo family goes back many years. He noted that Ambassador Finda Bundoo served as Chief of Protocol throughout Weah’s presidency and had supported him long before he became President.
Reflecting on the life of the deceased, Kemayah said Elder Bundoo lived a life of purpose and earned the respect of many people.
“From all we have heard and now know, Elder Elijah Bundoo lived a full and meaningful life that touched many Liberians, both at home and abroad,” he said.
Kemayah encouraged the family to find strength in their faith as they mourned.
“As we mourn, we should also find comfort in knowing that God is a God of love and mercy. Though we grieve today, we remain hopeful,” he said.
He ended his tribute with a prayer for the late Elder Bundoo, who died on June 26, 2026.
“It is our prayer and hope that Elder Elijah Tabakon, who departed this life at 5:06 p.m. on June 26 this year, will rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty,” Kemayah said.
