KOLLIETAWOLA, Bong County – The Liberia National Police (LNP) in Bong County has launched an investigation following the death of a woman who allegedly died after being assaulted by her husband in Kollietawola, just outside Gbarnga.
The deceased, identified as Lorpu Kollie, reportedly sustained serious injuries after an alleged domestic assault and was rushed to a nearby clinic in Gbarnga for medical treatment. She was later pronounced dead while receiving care.
Speaking to reporters, the deceased’s daughter, Fanta Kamara, claimed that her stepfather, identified only as Richard, who works as a security officer, frequently quarreled with her late mother whenever he received his salary.
According to Fanta, the latest incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, after Richard allegedly gave Lorpu money for safekeeping. She said her mother later removed L$1,500 from the money and instructed her to use it to purchase a puppy.
Fanta alleged that when Richard later requested the money, the missing L$1,500 sparked another heated argument between the couple.
She further claimed that at about 6:00 p.m. the same day, Richard allegedly attacked her mother while accusing her brothers of interfering in their relationship.
According to Fanta, Richard allegedly stomped on Lorpu Kollie’s stomach during the confrontation. She said she attempted to intervene and chased after him, but he allegedly locked both of them inside a room and continued assaulting her mother.
Lorpu Kollie was later rushed to a medical facility in Gbarnga, where she reportedly died from her injuries.
The suspect, Richard, is currently in the custody of the Liberia National Police Bong County Detachment as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
Police have not yet released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the case or announced whether formal charges have been filed.
