A young woman is fighting for her life after an alleged brutal stabbing in the early hours of Sunday morning, in what family members describe as a violent act of domestic abuse.
The victim, identified as Sarah Sumo, was reportedly attacked by her boyfriend in a jealous rage at her cook-shop near the 911 Entertainment Center in Mount Barclay, just outside Monrovia.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., according to relatives and eyewitnesses.
Sarah sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where she remains unconscious in the trauma unit. Medical officials have not released an update on her condition.
Eyewitnesses say the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving Sarah bleeding and unresponsive. Neighbors, alerted by her screams, rushed to help and called for emergency assistance.
Family members have shared photographs with local media showing the alleged attacker, the victim, and the weapon believed to have been used in the stabbing.
These materials have been submitted to the Liberia National Police, and the family is calling on the public to assist in locating the suspect.
“This cannot be just another case where the perpetrator vanishes and nothing happens,” said one relative, urging law enforcement to act swiftly.
Gender-based violence remains a critical issue in Liberia, with many cases going unresolved due to weak enforcement and limited resources.
Activists and community leaders are using this incident to highlight the broader issue of violence against women.
“This is not just about our sister. It’s about sending a message that violence against women will not go unpunished,” the family stated in a public appeal.
Residents of Mount Barclay have expressed shock over the incident and are demanding increased police presence in the area, especially during late-night hours.
The police have yet to release an official statement, but community members say they hope an investigation is actively underway. The family has emphasized the urgency of the situation, expressing fear that the suspect could attempt to flee the country.
Sarah Sumo remains in critical condition; her family, and the community wait anxiously for justice to be served.
