The Wesleyan School System of Liberia (WSSL) has announced plans to host the All-Wesleyan Tournament, a major inter-school sporting event scheduled for April 30 to May 1, 2026.
The tournament is being organized in honor of exiled Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie, in recognition of his contributions to youth development and social advocacy.
According to officials of the institution, the tournament will feature participation from 14 high schools within the Wesleyan school network. Students will compete in both football and kickball, with organizers emphasizing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and unity among young people.
WSSL stated that the decision to honor Kollie is rooted in his longstanding commitment to youth empowerment, capacity building, and human rights activism. The institution also highlighted his consistent advocacy for justice, accountability, and transparency in Liberia as key reasons for the recognition.
Through the Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation, Kollie has reportedly facilitated hundreds of scholarship opportunities for Liberian students. Beneficiaries include young people from Montserrado County as well as other parts of the country, many of whom have gained access to educational opportunities they might not otherwise have had.
The tournament is expected to officially kick off on Thursday, April 30, at the D. Twen Sports Stadium in New Kru Town. Organizers say the venue was selected for its accessibility and capacity to host large sporting events.
WSSL officials noted that beyond competition, the tournament seeks to inspire students by showcasing the achievements of individuals who have made meaningful contributions to society.
They expressed hope that honoring Kollie will encourage young participants to pursue positive change in their communities.
The event is expected to attract students, educators, parents, and sports enthusiasts, making it one of the notable school-based sporting activities on the academic calendar.
