A once vocal critic of ex-President George Weah and a US-based banker, Henry Garneo, has crossed over to the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), just hours after CDC Political Leader George Weah officially announced that he would run for President in 2029.
Garneo, a former loyal supporter of President Joseph Boakai in 2017 and 2023 presidential elections, said he is joining CDC to ensure that Weah returns to power while claiming that the Republic under President Boakai has turned into what he termed as a “Cartel State.”
Garneo, a former student leader in Liberia, expressed serious disappointment and disapproval of the prevailing state of affairs under President Boakai.
“…Come what may, we are going to take our intellectual might to the political battle front and make sure that CDC is victorious. This is not what we voted for. The Republic has turned into a Cartel State. Sometimes we live to learn. We make decisions that later come back to bite us. We cannot say that we overwhelmingly regret our decision in 2023. But what we can say is that we will right the wrong in 2029,” Garneo said in a brief interview on the sidelines of the ongoing CDC Convention in the USA.
Recently, Garneo posted on his social media page, saying, “Da JNB we trust.”
The latest shift in Garneo’s political allegiance has left some pundits in a state of shock. As 2029 edges, political alignments and realignments may be more frequent.
