Suspected Mpox Case Reported at C.B Dunbar Hospital in Bong County

Health authorities in Bong County are investigating a suspected case of Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, at CB Dunbar Maternity Hospital in Gbarnga. The hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Moses Beyan, confirmed that a female patient exhibiting symptoms consistent with the viral disease has been in isolation under medical supervision for the past three days.

According to Dr. Beyan, the patient’s condition prompted immediate precautionary measures, including isolation and strict adherence to infection control protocols. “We have a dedicated team ensuring her care and safeguarding both hospital staff and the wider community,” he stated.

The hospital is currently awaiting laboratory confirmation from a specialized testing facility. Until results are received, the diagnosis remains unconfirmed. “We are closely coordinating with health authorities and will respond appropriately once we have a definitive outcome,” Dr. Beyan said.

Mpox is a viral illness transmitted from animals to humans and between humans through close contact. Symptoms typically include fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and a rash resembling lesions. Though it shares similarities with smallpox, Mpox is generally considered less severe.

In response to the suspected case, local health officials are urging residents to remain calm but vigilant. Dr. Beyan advised the public to report any unusual symptoms and to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing and mask-wearing in crowded areas.

Community outreach programs are being launched to raise awareness about the virus, its transmission, and the importance of early medical attention. Health workers have begun mobilizing efforts to ensure accurate information reaches the public and to counter misinformation that may arise.

Community leaders have expressed concern but emphasized the importance of solidarity. “Transparent communication and public education are key in situations like this,” said a local health worker who asked not to be named.

As Bong County continues to confront health challenges, including the lingering effects of past outbreaks, local hospitals and public health teams are working swiftly to respond. CB Dunbar Maternity Hospital has pledged to keep the public informed as developments unfold.

“The safety of our patients and the community is our top priority,” Dr. Beyan affirmed. “We thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we manage this situation.”

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official health updates and trusted news sources as the community awaits the results of the ongoing investigation.
