Rape Trial of 43-Year-Old Man Begins in River Cess County

River Cess County, Liberia – The trial of 43-year-old Saah Bondor, accused of raping two young girls in Solo Village, Yarnee District, has begun at the Rape Court of the 14th Judicial Circuit in River Cess County.

Bondor stands accused of the rape of two minors, aged nine and eleven, in a case that has drawn public concern and attention in the region. The alleged incidents reportedly took place in Solo Village, a remote part of Yarnee District.

Court proceedings opened earlier this week, and since Tuesday, June 9, 2025, three witnesses have taken the stand—including the two survivors of the alleged assaults. Their testimonies were heard behind closed doors, in accordance with Liberian law protecting the identity and privacy of minors in sexual offense cases.

Prosecutors are seeking a conviction based on the survivors’ accounts and supporting evidence. Meanwhile, the defense has yet to present its case.

The trial is being closely watched by residents of River Cess County and rights organizations advocating for justice in sexual and gender-based violence cases.

The case continues as more witnesses are expected to testify in the coming days.
