The Independent Information Commission (IIC) has successfully concluded a two-day Freedom of Information Awareness, Compliance, and Records Management Training for representatives from 20 key government institutions.
The training, conducted recently was held at the Charles Gbenyon Press Hall at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism (MICAT).
It brought together 100 senior officials and departmental heads from Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs), and focused on improving transparency, access to information, and strengthening institutional understanding of the FOI Act.
The initiative comes on the heels of a nationwide FOI Audit launched by the IIC on October 21, 2024. That audit assessed 103 public institutions and found a widespread decline in FOI compliance, with many agencies failing to meet their legal obligations under the Act.
