Monrovia – Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman has addressed the recent controversy surrounding the alleged attempted arrest of motorcyclist and activist Trokon Gray, popularly known as “Yellow Machine,” following his appearance on The Closing Argument talk show aired on Truth FM.
Speaking exclusively to The Closing Argument team, IG Coleman clarified that the police officers seen at the Truth FM compound were not deployed to arrest Gray. He described the situation as a “magnified error” and referred to the incident as a simple case of “navigation error” by CO-5 and other officers in the area.
“There was no targeted operation against Trokon Gray,” Coleman said. “The police presence in the vicinity was not connected to any warrant or directive involving him. This was a case of local law enforcement personnel carrying out routine duties in the area.”
The statement from Liberia’s top police official comes in response to widespread speculation and public concern that the officers were sent to arrest Gray shortly after his critical remarks on national issues during the live radio program. The timing of the police arrival fueled accusations of intimidation and suppression of free speech.
IG Coleman emphasized that while local officers have the authority to enforce laws within their jurisdictions, in this case, no arrest was intended or authorized. The Liberia National Police, he said, remains committed to upholding democratic values and ensuring the protection of all citizens, including journalists and civil society advocates.
