Young Woman Injured in Police-Involved Shooting on Kesselly Boulevard

A 22-year-old woman was seriously injured in a police-involved shooting incident late Friday night along Kesselly Boulevard in the Gardnersville area, according to a statement from the Liberia National Police (LNP).

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. on July 18, during a routine patrol by officers from the LNP’s Anti-Robbery Unit. Police say they attempted to apprehend individuals on motorbikes suspected of engaging in criminal activity when one of the suspects allegedly opened fire.

In the exchange that followed, a civilian, Massa Crawford, a resident of the Doe Community, was struck in the jaw by a bullet. She was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Police have confirmed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is now in custody.

The LNP has launched what it describes as a “thorough and transparent” investigation into the matter.

“We deeply regret the injury to Miss Crawford and are working closely with her and her family during this difficult time,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Cecelia G. Clarke, the LNP spokesperson. “We are committed to maintaining public trust through accountability and professionalism.”

Authorities have pledged to keep the public informed as the investigation continues and have vowed to take decisive action if misconduct is uncovered.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over police operations in densely populated neighborhoods and the potential for harm to civilians during criminal crackdowns. Community members are calling for swift justice and more stringent oversight of law enforcement practices.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to come forward as police continue their investigation.
