Pres. Boakai Commissions New Firefighting Equipment to Bolster National Fire Service

By Ben T.C. Brooks

In a significant move to strengthen Liberia’s emergency response infrastructure, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, commissioned a new fleet of firefighting equipment for the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), pledging his government’s commitment to public safety and disaster prevention.

The commissioning ceremony, held on the grounds of the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, marked the official handover of several critical assets, including six modern fire trucks, three water trucks, two operational jeeps, and ten motorcycles designed to boost rapid response and community engagement.

These equipment will not sit in garages,” President Boakai declared. “They are tools of service ~ tools that represent our duty to protect every Liberian community from the devastating impact of fire outbreaks.”

He reaffirmed that the investment aligns with his Administration’s ARREST Agenda and vision for a safer Liberia where institutions are empowered to serve citizens effectively.

The President called on the LNFS to uphold professionalism in their operations and encouraged citizens to support fire safety measures in their communities.

LNFS Director Col. G. Wasuwah Barvoul, Sr. hailed the initiative as a “historic moment” for the agency, emphasizing that the upgraded fleet would drastically improve response times, especially in remote and underserved areas.

With these new trucks, water carriers, jeeps, and motorcycles, we can now respond faster, reach remote areas, and save more lives,” Col. Barvoul said. “This is not just about vehicles ~ it is about restoring confidence in our ability to protect this nation.”

He further noted that strategic deployment of the equipment would begin immediately, with trained personnel stationed across key regions.

This latest development is part of the Boakai Administration’s broader efforts to revitalize public institutions and strengthen national resilience against emergencies.
