Opposition Member Alvin Wesseh Condemns Police Over Treatment of Muslim Woman

Opposition stalwart and former Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Alvin Wesseh, has strongly condemned what he describes as the “brutal and dehumanizing” treatment of a Fulani woman by police officers, calling it a blatant act of “disrespect to womanhood.”

The incident, which was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, shows police officers forcefully dragging a woman ~ who was holding a baby in her arms ~ during a reported altercation.

“She held the baby in her arms, yet you bundled both the baby and her and forcefully dragged them out. No pity for the innocent baby. She screamed for help. Yet, you beat and naked her on camera! Disrespect to womanhood,” Wesseh said in a strongly worded statement issued Thursday.

The footage has sparked outrage across the country, with rights groups and members of the public demanding a full investigation into the matter and accountability for those involved.

Wesseh, a vocal critic of the current administration, further called for an immediate review of police conduct and training, particularly in their engagement with women and vulnerable individuals.

Wesseh’s comments have added to growing pressure on the government to act decisively and ensure justice is served.
