The country for the first time after 40 years has finally imported its own petroleum products. The total of ten thousand (10,000) metric tons of gasoline, constituting 3.1 million gallons, have just arrived in Liberia.
Another consignment of 7,000 metric tons of diesel, constituting 1.9 million gallons, is also en route to Liberia and will l arrive in three days according to LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh.
The historic first consignment of petrol products coincides with President Joseph Boakai’s working visit to the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC). The President is inspecting ongoing storage projects at LPRC’s facilty on the Bushrod Island.
The move by the government to import its own petrol products is geared towards preventing scarcity, price hike, empowering Liberian petrol businesses, and responding to other unforeseen market shocks according to some senior authorities who spoke with Verity News but preferred anonymity.
This is a developing story.
