Firestone Liberia School System Fined LRD 500,000 for Graduation Rule Violation

Monrovia, Liberia — The Ministry of Education has imposed a fine of LRD 500,000 on the Firestone Liberia School System for violating national graduation regulations. The penalty was issued after the school included ineligible students in its recent graduation ceremony.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Ministry emphasized that while partnerships with schools are vital to the delivery of quality education, no institution—whether public or private—is exempt from national education standards.

“Partnership does not mean exemption from the rules,” the statement read. “Every institution must comply with MoE standards that protect fairness, credibility, and the future of our children.”

The Ministry said the action is part of a broader reform initiative aimed at strengthening accountability and improving learning outcomes across Liberia’s education system.

Officials also issued a public call for increased vigilance, urging parents, school administrators, and education officers at the county and district levels to report suspected violations. Reports can be submitted through local education offices or via the national education hotline at 1416.

“Together, let us uphold standards that prepare students for real success, not ceremonial shortcuts,” the Ministry concluded.
