China’s Top Legislator Meets Liberian Senate Leader in Beijing

BEIJING, October 15 — China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, met on Wednesday with Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, during her visit to Beijing for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

Zhao, who serves as Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), noted that relations between China and Liberia have advanced to the level of a strategic partnership, guided by the leadership of both countries’ presidents.

He emphasized China’s readiness to work with Liberia to implement the key agreements reached by the two heads of state, as well as the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Zhao also highlighted the importance of continued mutual support on core interests, deepening practical cooperation, and promoting multilateral unity in the pursuit of building an “all-weather” China-Africa community with a shared future.

Zhao added that the NPC is open to enhancing exchanges with the Liberian legislature, particularly in areas of legislative and supervisory work. He expressed interest in collaborating on legal frameworks to advance the protection of women’s rights and to foster a supportive legal environment for bilateral cooperation.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence reaffirmed Liberia’s adherence to the one-China policy and expressed support for China’s vision of a community with a shared future for humanity. She said Liberia is committed to strengthening inter-parliamentary exchanges as a means to further develop bilateral relations.
