Gas Tanker Erupts in Flames on Suakoko-Gbarnga Highway

A 6,000-gallon gas tanker burst into flames early Tuesday around the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) Compound along the Suakoko-Gbarnga Highway in Bong County. It’s reported that the incident happened at about 1:30 AM.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker overturned after one of its tires reportedly burst while heading to Nimba from Monrovia, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to crash on the main road. The incident triggered a massive fire that engulfed the tanker shortly afterward.

Five individuals were said to be on board the vehicle at the time of the accident. They managed to escape moments before the tanker exploded. All sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Phebe Hospital in Suakoko.

No fatalities have been reported so far, but the blaze has caused major traffic disruptions, halting the movement of several vehicles traveling to and from the county.

Authorities have yet to determine the identity of the company that owns the tanker and the names of those involved. Fire service personnel and local residents have been working to contain the flames and prevent further spread.

Developing story…
