Rep. Yekeh Kolubah Blasts Boakai–Koung Administration for “Failed Leadership,” Rising Hardship in Southeast Liberia

By Ben TC Brooks

Montserrado County district 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah and a one time supporter of president Boakai has launched a scathing attack on the Unity Party led government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, accusing the administration of gross mismanagement, neglect of rural communities, and worsening living conditions across the southeastern corridor.

During a stopover in Kanweaken and Fish-Town, River Gee County, Rep. Kolubah described his recent road journey from River xing through Sinoe to River Gee as “an eye-opening experience” that revealed the severe infrastructural collapse and economic deprivation facing thousands of residents.

Kolubah said the journey which should have taken days, lasted a week due to deteriorated roads and impassable corridors.

He particularly condemned the stretch from River Cess, Sinoe to River Gee, calling it “deplorable, unacceptable, and clear evidence of failed national leadership.”

“I traveled from Buchanan to Cestos, Greenville, and finally to Fish-Town. It took me week just to reach our people,” Kolubah lamented. “Is this the change President Boakai promised? Is this what Liberians voted for?”

The outspoken lawmaker did not mince words, branding President Boakai whom he repeatedly referred to as “Old Joseph Nyuma Boakai” a “complete failure” and “a disgrace to the nation.” He accused the administration of showing no real commitment to improving national infrastructure or addressing the hunger, poverty, and economic stagnation affecting ordinary citizens.

According to Kolubah, communities across the Southeast, an area historically disadvantaged by poor road connectivity, remain cut off during the rainy season, making transportation, trade, and access to health services nearly impossible.

“Our people are suffering. There are no proper roads, no food security, and no meaningful development happening here,” he told journalists. “Even if the Southeast gave him one or two votes, those voters still deserve development.”

Kolubah further argued that the Boakai–Koung government has failed to represent the interests of the Southeast, despite repeated calls for equitable national development.

He urged residents of River Gee and the broader southeastern region to reconsider their political loyalty ahead of the 2029 presidential and general elections.

“By 2029, we must correct this mistake,” he declared to a crowd dominated by young people. “Liberia needs leaders who can lift this country, not leaders who make empty promises.”

The Montserrado lawmaker’s remarks form part of his ongoing nationwide citizens’ engagement tour.

His next stop, he announced, will be Maryland County, where he intends to continue rallying citizens around what he describes as “the urgent need for accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership.”

Kolubah’s arrival in River Gee drew sizable crowds, especially youths in Gbeapo Kanweaken and Fish-Town.

Many residents expressed excitement and appreciation for his visit, describing him as “a true leader” willing to speak truth to power and visit regions often overlooked by national politicians.
