Military Modernisation: Ghana Air Force Welcomes Airbus H175

The Ghana Air Force has taken delivery of a newly acquired Airbus H175 helicopter from France, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing modernisation and retooling of its operational fleet.

The acquisition forms part of a broader defence procurement programme approved by Parliament aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The state-of-the-art helicopter was ferried from Marignane, France, and arrived in Accra, Ghana on Thursday, March 5, 2026, after successfully completing all technical acceptance procedures with the manufacturer, Airbus Helicopters.

According to Ghana Air Force, the delivery flight followed a carefully planned route through Spain and North‑West Africa before continuing south along the West African Atlantic coastline through several countries en route to Ghana.

Military sources say the addition of the H175 helicopter is expected to significantly enhance the Air Force’s operational capabilities, particularly in areas such as surveillance, search and rescue operations, troop transport, and maritime patrol.

The delivery forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to equip the armed forces with modern platforms to meet evolving security challenges and improve response capacity in both national defence and humanitarian operations.
