SANNIQUELLIE, NIMBA COUNTY — Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has called on citizens to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory remarks as tensions linger along the Liberia–Guinea border.
Briefing the media Monday following a County Security Council meeting in Sanniquellie, Superintendent Gono cautioned that public statements capable of inciting unrest could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.
She urged both Nimbaians and Liberians to remain calm and allow the national government to address the situation through established channels. According to her, the government is adequately positioned and experienced to manage the matter without escalation.
“Statements suggesting ultimatums or threats are unhealthy and do not contribute to peace,” Superintendent Gono emphasized, warning that such rhetoric could aggravate an already sensitive situation.
Speaking in her capacity as Chair of the Superintendents Council of Liberia, Gono assured the public that authorities are closely monitoring developments and are committed to ensuring stability along the border.
She further reaffirmed the government’s determination to handle the situation with caution and diplomacy, stressing that every effort is being made to prevent any potential conflict.
The Superintendent’s comments come amid growing public concern over reports of tension along the Liberia–Guinea boundary, prompting local authorities to intensify security coordination in the region.
