Radev Returns To The Presidency, Secures Landslide Victory in Bulgaria’s Parliamentary Election

By Myean Torgbean

Rumen Radev is set to become Bulgaria’s next prime minister after his Progressive Bulgaria party won a decisive victory in the country’s latest parliamentary election, according to near-final official results.

The vote marks Bulgaria’s eighth parliamentary election in just five years, underscoring a prolonged period of political instability in the Bulgaria.

With 98.3 percent of ballots counted as of Monday, electoral authorities reported that Radev’s centre-left Progressive Bulgaria party secured 44.7 percent of the vote. The result is expected to translate into approximately 130 seats in the 240-member parliament—enough to give the party a commanding position and potentially govern without the fragile coalitions that have characterized recent administrations.

Pre-election polls had indicated a likely victory for Radev, but the scale of the win exceeded expectations. Analysts say the outcome reflects growing public frustration with repeated elections and unstable governance, as well as a desire for political continuity and reform.

The decisive result has raised hopes among voters that Bulgaria may finally achieve a period of stability after years of fractured leadership. However, uncertainties remain regarding Radev’s policy direction, particularly in foreign affairs.

Observers are closely watching how the incoming government will navigate Bulgaria’s role within the European Union and NATO, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region.

Further details on cabinet formation and policy priorities are expected in the coming days.
