Nine Liberians Deported from U.S. After Serving Prison Sentences

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

Monrovia, Liberia — Nine Liberian nationals have been deported from the United States following convictions for a range of criminal offenses, authorities confirmed Thursday.

The individuals arrived in Liberia on April 23 and were received at Roberts International Airport by officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), according to official sources.

Their deportation comes after they completed prison sentences in the United States for crimes committed during their stay abroad. The offenses reportedly include robbery, weapons violations, sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping, burglary, driving under the influence (DUI), fraud, resisting arrest, and larceny.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the deportees or outlined any additional legal or monitoring measures that may be applied following their return to Liberia.

The Liberia Immigration Service is expected to coordinate with relevant national security agencies regarding the individuals’ reintegration and any further actions deemed necessary.
