Liberia’s rich culinary heritage will be on full display later this month as chefs, food lovers, and cultural enthusiasts gather for the highly anticipated Liberia National Cooking Championship.
The event is scheduled for May 30-31 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, where participants from across the country will compete for the title of “Best Chef of Liberia.”
According to the organizers, the championship aims to highlight Liberia’s diverse food traditions while giving chefs from all 15 counties an opportunity to showcase their culinary skills. Supporters from across the fifteen (15) counties are expected to turn out in large numbers to cheer on their representatives from their respective counties, creating an atmosphere of both competition and unity.
“This is more than just a cooking contest. “It’s about preserving our culture, promoting tourism, and showcasing what Liberian cuisine has to offer,” said one of the organizers.
With an entry fee of just US$5, the event is open to a wide audience. Attendees will not only witness the competition but also enjoy a variety of authentic Liberian dishes.
The Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation is also supporting the initiative by sponsoring 15 attendees. The foundation awarded the first tickets to the first 15 individuals who shared information about the event. Tickets are available via mobile money, and organizers are encouraging the public to follow the event’s Facebook page for updates and additional details.
As the date approaches, discussions are already intensifying over which county will claim the top prize. The championship is expected to inspire a strong sense of pride, friendly competition, and national unity.
For many, the event is more than just a contest; it is a celebration of Liberia’s identity through food.
With just weeks to go, all eyes are now on Paynesville as the country prepares for what promises to be an exciting and memorable occasion.
