MONROVIA – Businessman and Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings, says Liberia requires fresh leadership and new ideas to overcome its longstanding challenges, comparing the country’s political situation to a battery-powered radio that can no longer function with an exhausted battery.
Speaking to supporters, Cummings used a simple analogy to explain his vision for national renewal and his belief that Liberia needs a different approach to governance.
“If you have a battery radio and the battery runs down and you keep putting the same battery, the radio will not work, right?” Cummings said. “So you need a new battery, and I am that new battery that the country needs.”
The ANC political leader argued that Liberia’s development has been hindered by recurring leadership failures and the recycling of the same political practices. He maintained that meaningful progress can only be achieved through new leadership committed to accountability, economic growth, and improved public services.
Cummings, who has previously contested for the Liberian presidency, said his experience in the private sector has prepared him to offer practical solutions to the country’s economic and governance challenges.
His remarks come amid growing political discussions about the future direction of Liberia as opposition parties and political figures continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
Supporters of the ANC leader have often portrayed him as a reform-minded alternative capable of bringing innovation and efficiency to government, while critics argue that voters will ultimately determine whether his message resonates with the broader electorate.
Cummings’ “new battery” comparison has since attracted attention on social media, with supporters and critics alike debating the implications of his comments and what they could mean for Liberia’s political future.
