River Gee County | June 17, 2026 | Residents of Bassa Community in Fish-Town, are set to benefit from a mini marketplace as construction nears completion.
The project, which is currently in its final phase, is being sponsored by River Gee county electoral district #2 Representative Isaac Boye Choloplay Wuo, as the project is expected to be officially turned over to the community in the coming weeks.
Contractors are presently completing the installation of approximately 16 cement market tables, each measuring 3 by 6 feet, to accommodate local vendors.
The newly constructed market facility also includes smaller storage, and a cement restroom, intended to providing much-needed convenience and improved sanitary conditions for traders and customers alike.
The mini market hall is designed to enhance local commerce, create a safer and more organized trading environment, and improve the overall shopping experience within the community.
For many years, marketers, predominantly women and young people, have conducted business in a makeshift market area situated in front of the Gee Foundation Elementary School.
Operating without a permanent structure exposed vendors to harsh weather conditions, often forcing them to rely on temporary shelters that offered little protection.
Recognizing the challenges faced by local traders, Representative Isaac Boye Choloplay Wuo launched the project during a groundbreaking ceremony held on September 10, 2025, where he disclosed that the initiative cost approximately US$30,000.
As construction enters its final stage, residents of the Bassa Community especially marketeers are expressing optimism that the new facility will revitalize commercial activities, empower local entrepreneurs, and contribute to the economic growth of Fish-Town and surrounding communities.
