Two former student leaders, Varfee J. M. Dukuly and James Benedict Paye Jr., have obtained Master’s degrees in Economics and Food Science respectively from one of India’s prestigious private universities, Sharda University.
Dukuly obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Economics, while Paye earned a Master’s degree in Food Science, marking another academic achievement for Liberian students pursuing advanced studies abroad.
Announcing his accomplishment on social media, Dukuly expressed gratitude to the University of Liberia for awarding him a fully funded scholarship that made his graduate studies possible.
According to Dukuly, the scholarship represented more than financial assistance, describing it as evidence of the university’s commitment to advancing education and empowering students through academic opportunities.
Dukuly further acknowledged the role played by University of Liberia then President Dr. Sarwolo J. Nelson Jr., whom he credited for providing leadership, mentorship, and support throughout his educational journey.
“Dr. Nelson has been far more than a mentor. He has been a father figure, a leader, and a beacon of hope,” Dukuly stated, adding that the university president’s guidance and encouragement contributed significantly to his success.
He also extended appreciation to Dr. Layli Maparyan for her support and commitment toward sustaining the scholarship program.
The achievements of Dukuly and Paye have been welcomed by colleagues and well-wishers, who view their academic accomplishments as a source of inspiration for young Liberians aspiring to pursue higher education and professional development.
Their graduation underscores the growing impact of international educational opportunities and scholarship programs in helping Liberian students acquire advanced knowledge and skills for national development.
