Joint security forces have seized a large quantity of cocaine at a fenced company in Duazo, near the Baptist Seminary community along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway in Lower Margibi County.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the Liberia National Police (LNP), and the Executive Protection Service (EPS) after they received a tip-off late Monday night about suspected drug-related activities at the location.
Acting on the information, security officers raided the compound Tuesday morning and discovered several boxes containing substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
The substances were tested by the LDEA and confirmed to be cocaine.
Following the discovery, the compound was placed under heavy security while investigators documented the evidence and continued their search.
Two foreign nationals were arrested during the operation. According to Police Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman, the two suspects are identified as a Colombian and a Spanish national. Their names have not yet been released.
IG Coleman did not disclose the number of boxes seized or the estimated street value of the cocaine, saying the inventory and investigation are still ongoing.
Investigators are also working to determine the origin of the drugs and whether other people were involved in the operation.
The seizure is one of the latest major drug busts by Liberian security agencies as they continue efforts to crack down on narcotics trafficking across the country.
Police say more details, including the quantity of cocaine recovered and the charges expected to be filed against the suspects, will be made public as the investigation progresses.
