GBARNGA, Bong County — The Bong County authorities have approved a Fiscal Year 2026 budget totaling approximately US$4.94 million, targeting infrastructure development, education, healthcare, sanitation, rule of law and administrative activities across the county.
The approved budget, according to the resolution, provides funding for a wide range of development projects and institutional programs across the county’s seven electoral districts.
A significant portion of the budget is earmarked for civil works and infrastructure, including the renovation of the Gbarnga Administration Building, completion of the Administration Complex, renovation of Flehla Public High School in District #6, construction and completion of town halls, bridges, clinics, maternal waiting homes, schools and multipurpose centers.
Among the major allocations are US$120,000 for the initial renovation of the Gbarnga Administration Building, US$170,000 for the balance of work on the Superintendent’s Compound, and US$70,000 for renovation of Flehla Public High School.
The budget also allocates US$70,000 for the purchase of a truck for the Gbarnga City Corporation, while several town halls, bridges, schools, clinics and maternal waiting homes are each allocated between US$25,000 and US$75,000.
Education and Sports:
The education sector is also receiving substantial support under the FY2026 budget.
The county has allocated US$165,000 for the Madam Suakoko Scholarship Program, US$75,000 to Bong County University, US$10,000 as financial support to Cuttington University, and US$10,000 for the Bong County educational system.
The budget further provides US$25,000 to LOIC and US$55,000 for sports activities.
A major allocation of US$250,000 is designated as Bong County’s contribution to the Sports Park, while an additional US$950,000 is listed as an ArcelorMittal contribution to the project.
Health and Sanitation:
The health and sanitation sector is allocated funding for hospitals, clinics, water systems and other health-related infrastructure.
The budget provides US$15,000 each in financial support to Bong Mine Hospital, Phebe Hospital and Yeala Clinic, while Gbartala Clinic receives US$10,000.
Other allocations include US$20,000 for a modern latrine at C.B. Dunbar Hospital, US$50,000 for the construction of a Totota Maternity Waiting Home, US$50,000 for Gornemah Clinic, and US$65,000 for the purchase of an ambulance for the County Health Team.
The county has also budgeted US$40,000 each for pipe-borne water systems in David Dean Town and Palala Town, while Popota and Nuimue clinics are each allocated US$50,000 for construction.
An additional US$100,000 is earmarked for construction of the Shankpala Clinic in District #4, with US$55,000 allocated as an additional payment for a drilling machine.
Rule of Law and Security:
Under the rule-of-law sector, the county has budgeted US$130,000 for construction of a Magisterial Court in Foequelleh, District #4.
The construction of police stations in Mono Wainsue and Gbenequelleh, both in District #2, is allocated US$50,000 each.
The budget further provides US$120,000 for assorted smart solar lights, US$45,000 for internet installation and US$25,000 for the purchase of a vehicle for police operations.
Administrative Programs:
For county administration, the approved budget includes allocations for catering, workshops and symposiums; fuel and lubricants; internal and foreign travel; vehicle maintenance; electricity; internet and telecommunications; office equipment; security services and other operational expenses.
The county has also allocated US$28,000 for commissioners’ operational costs and US$62,000 for the purchase of motorcycles for 15 Paramount Chiefs and 47 Clan Chiefs.
An additional US$20,000 is provided to the Traditional Council for community roadside brushing.
Contingency and Institutional Support:
The contingency section includes financial assistance to people living with disabilities, statutory administrative districts and several community radio stations operating in Bong County.
Radio stations listed for support include Super Bongese Radio, Radio Gbarnga, Kwatekeh Radio, Voice of Bong, Premium Radio and Kwakageh Radio, with each receiving US$3,000.
Other contingency allocations include US$4,000 for Gender Gbarnga/Save Home support, US$18,000 for the construction of a modern public toilet with borehole installation, and US$42,000 for two 70KVA Perkins generators.
The budget also includes US$128,700 as a second appropriation for renovation of the Gbarnga Administration Building and US$40,000 for completion of David-ta Elementary School in District #3 under the FY2025 addendum.
Inherited and Underestimated Projects:
The FY2026 resolution also makes provisions for projects carried over from previous fiscal years.
These include construction of Ula Clinic, Bahee Elementary School and Malonkai Elementary School in District #1, with allocations of US$38,348, US$30,000 and US$45,000, respectively.
Other underfunded or underestimated projects include schools and public facilities in Mano Wainsue, Gornemai, Benefana, Quayakolya, Gbaney and Konowoala.
The county has also allocated US$25,000 for County Council monitoring, lodging, feeding and accommodation.
According to the budget document, the total expenditure for Bong County’s FY2026 approved resolution budget is US$4,941,666.46.
The allocations are intended to support ongoing development initiatives while addressing infrastructure, education, healthcare, sanitation, administrative and security needs across Bong County.
