Ghana Freezes Millions in Drug Money, Traces 73 Assets Linked to Drug Trafficking

Ghana is not just cracking down on drug traffickers and their accomplices, but they are also pursuing their assets. The Ghanaian government has frozen millions in drug money and is going after the properties of alleged drug traffickers in Ghana, the Minister of Interior said on Monday, 24 August.

“Our campaign is not just [targeted] at the users, but those who are bringing it. We’ll go down, using intelligence-led, to make sure that when we get them, we seize their assets or we taint their assets, freezing them while the prosecution is going on. Cash that has been associated with these persons involved in these drugs, about 6.9 million and then about 440,000 US dollars, has been restrained.”
