Montserrado Players Threaten Protest At Capitol Building

By: Naomi Tappia

Monrovia -Liberia : Due to lack of support, Montserrado County players have been held hostage as they threaten to stage a protest at the Capitol Building.

The players see themselves embroiled in a distressing situation as they lament the apparent negligence and lack of support from their county’s legislative caucus.

In a candid interview, the players voiced their frustrations over the dire circumstances they face, with the management of Kailondo hotel in Monrovia holding them captive until outstanding bills are settled.

The players, speaking out against the backdrop of mounting financial constraints, revealed that the executives of the County Sports Steering Committee owe them a staggering sum of three hundred United States dollars (US$300).

Shockingly, they disclosed that despite their unwavering commitment and dedication to representing their county, they have yet to receive payment for their participation in three preliminary round matches, leaving them in a perilous state of deprivation, including hunger pangs due to the unavailability of food provisions.

Expressing a profound sense of disillusionment, the players decried the treatment meted out to them, viewing it as a shameful disregard for their efforts and sacrifices.

They emphasized the irony of Montserrado County, boasting 17 Representatives and two Senators, failing to extend essential support to its sports ambassadors, particularly in light of their commendable representation in the nation’s esteemed tournament.

In an assertive stance aimed at garnering attention to their plight, the players issued a stern warning of their intention to stage a protest at the hallowed grounds of the Capitol Building.

This act, they declared, serves as a poignant reminder to their lawmakers of their solemn duty to uphold the welfare and interests of their constituents, including the athletes who proudly carry the mantle of Montserrado County in the realm of sports.

As the specter of protest looms large, the spotlight now shifts to the corridors of power, where the fate of Montserrado County’s sporting fraternity hangs in the balance.

Will this impassioned outcry ignite the spark of change, or will it merely echo into the abyss of indifference?

The answer lies in the resolve of those entrusted with the stewardship of Montserrado County’s future, as they confront the urgent imperative to prioritize the well-being of their sporting heroes
