Five Opposition Parties Sign Joint Communiqué, 2029 Leadership Still Undecided

MONROVIA, Liberia — Five Liberian opposition parties have signed an eight-page joint communiqué aimed at strengthening political cooperation and developing a coordinated agenda ahead of the 2029 General and Presidential Elections.

The signatories are the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Alternative National Congress (ANC), Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), Union of Liberian Democrats Party (ULDP), and Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE).

The parties pledged to continue consultations, roundtable discussions and cooperation in the national interest, while acknowledging their political differences.

The communiqué also establishes an Opposition Political Parties’ Joint Technical Committee, with two representatives from each participating party, to develop an implementation and operational agenda.

Despite the growing cooperation, no joint presidential candidate or leader for a potential 2029 opposition coalition has been selected. The parties say their cooperation will first focus on building trust and addressing national issues, with the outcome of that process expected to inform the 2029 electoral agenda.
