MONROVIA, Liberia — Nimba County District #9 Representative Taa Wongbe has challenged House Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah to account for more than US$5 million reportedly budgeted for district development projects.
Wongbe rejected Fallah’s characterization of lawmakers’ concerns as a fight for personal benefits, insisting that the dispute centers on funds allegedly allocated for development but whose whereabouts remain unclear.
“Where is the over US$5 million budgeted for district projects?” Wongbe asked, adding that the money was intended for the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), rather than direct payments to lawmakers.
He cited the need for road rehabilitation, school facilities, classroom furniture, healthcare support, and other community infrastructure as reasons for demanding accountability.
“The question is: What happened to the money, who authorized its use, and where is the accounting?” Wongbe stated.
The allegations have not been independently verified. Clarification from House leadership and LACE would be necessary to establish the status and accounting of the reported funds.
