Reports have it that House Speaker Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa has withdrawn his Writ of Prohibition filed with the Supreme Court.
According to the petition, his action is intended to prevent the Anti-Koffa Bloc from conducting separate sessions.
Speaker Koffa withdrawal of the petition for the writ of Prohibition against the Anti-Koffa bloc is also as the result of the Liberian Senate intervention.
On Thursday, the Liberian Senate established a mediation committee to help address the political struggle at the House of Representatives over the removal of Speaker Koffa.
Speaker Koffa’s legal team previously filed a petition for the writ of prohibition before the presiding Justice-in-Chamber at the Supreme Court claiming that the disenchanted lawmakers’ separate session is illegal.
However, Speaker Koffa has agreed to withdraw his petition following the Senate’s mediatory efforts.
The committee is chaired by Grand Bassa County Senator Gbehzonhngar Finley with RiverCess County Senator Wellington Smith serving as Co. Chair.
Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah, Maryland County Senator Gbleh-Bo Brown and Grand Gedeh County Senator Thomas Yaya Nimley are serving as members on the Senate mediating committee.
Currently, the Pro-Koffa bloc versus the Anti-Koffa bloc has a ratio of 30:43 .
The mediatory committee is however expected to calm down situation currently at the House of Representatives and restore normal operations of the August Body.
