Aggrieved Public School Teachers Stage Peaceful Protest, Demand Action on Pay and Welfare

Monrovia, Liberia – April 16, 2026 — A group of aggrieved MCSS teachers on Thursday staged a peaceful protest, calling on President Joseph Boakai to take urgent action on longstanding concerns over salaries and welfare.

The protesting educators are demanding immediate salary adjustments and the full implementation of a series of resolutions they say have been repeatedly ignored by the government.

Speaking on behalf of the group, a representative emphasized that the demonstration was non-violent and aimed solely at drawing the President’s attention to the worsening conditions faced by teachers across the country.

Central to their concerns is a resolution signed on March 27, 2025, which outlined key commitments to improve teachers’ conditions of service. These include salary increments, the transition of volunteer teachers onto the government payroll, and broader adjustments to educators’ compensation.

According to the protesters, more than a year later, none of the agreed measures have been implemented.

The teachers warn that the continued delay is not only affecting their livelihoods but also undermining the quality of education nationwide.

They are now urging the government to act swiftly and honor its commitments to restore confidence in the education sector.
