ANC Refutes Claims That Cllr. Moriah Yeakula Was Dismissed as Chief of Staff

By G. Watson Richards

The Secretary General of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Desmond Nimely, has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that Cllr. Moriah Yeakula was removed from her former position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the party’s Political Leader, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings.

In a social media post, Nimely clarified that Cllr. Yeakula stepped away from the role a few months after the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, noting that her departure was publicly communicated at the time.

He said claims that she was “dismissed” are inaccurate and do not reflect the facts.

According to Nimely, Cllr. Yeakula remains an important member of the ANC leadership and continues to maintain a cordial and professional relationship with Mr. Cummings.

“We want to make it clear that Cllr. Yeakula was never dismissed. She remains a respected member of our leadership team, and her relationship with Mr. Cummings remains cordial. We encourage members of the media and the public to verify information before spreading reports that are inaccurate and misleading,” he said.

Nimely also noted that Cllr. Yeakula currently serves as the ANC National Vice Chair for Legal Affairs, a position she was elected to during the party’s National Convention in November 2025.

He added that any future appointments within the Office of the Political Leader, including the position of Chief of Staff, will be officially announced through Mr. Cummings’ verified Facebook page and the party’s official communication channels.

The clarification follows public discussion sparked by recent media reports regarding changes within the office of the ANC Political Leader.
