Bomi County – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai marked the start of 2025 with a vibrant display of unity and hope during the New Year Peace Tournament held at the C.H. Dewey Sports Pitch in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
Organized by the JNB Foundation, the event drew enthusiastic crowds of residents, athletes, and local leaders who gathered to celebrate Liberia’s youth and embrace a message of reconciliation and development.
Addressing the gathering, President Boakai, Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, emphasized the necessity of unity for progress.
He called on the people of Bomi County and all Liberians to set aside divisions and work collaboratively for a brighter future. “Unity is the foundation of progress,” he stated, urging the crowd to foster peace and cooperation in their endeavors.
The President also highlighted the transformative potential of education, especially for young Liberians. He encouraged the youth to focus on their studies, equipping themselves with skills to impact their communities and the nation positively.
“Our youth hold the key to Liberia’s future,” he said. “We must invest in their education and inspire them to become agents of change.”
The tournament featured intense competition among local teams, culminating in President Boakai presenting cash prizes to the top four teams to encourage grassroots sports development.
Alongside him were First Lady Katumu Boakai and Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, who joined in celebrating the spirit of unity and progress.
The New Year Peace Tournament provided entertainment and a platform to reinforce the importance of collective action in building a stronger Liberia, inspiring attendees to contribute to the nation’s growth.
