Calls for greater transparency and accountability within the Liberia National Police are growing amid serious allegations surrounding the ongoing investigations into drug trafficking in Liberia.
Mrs. Grace R. Guar, in a public commentary, has called for a thorough and independent investigation into allegations made by activist Martin K. N. Kollie against LNP Inspector General Gregory O. Coleman.
Guar said the allegations, which include claims that police secret funds were used to purchase vehicles and possible conflicts of interest, are serious enough to warrant an impartial inquiry.
She cautioned that if proven true, such allegations could significantly undermine public confidence in the police and its handling of drug-related investigations.
According to Guar, Coleman and anyone else implicated should be given a fair opportunity to respond to the accusations. She recommended an independent audit or investigation to establish the facts and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.
She emphasized that transparency in law enforcement is essential to building public trust, preventing corruption and abuse of power, and ensuring that officers are held accountable.
Guar also said the media and the public are likely to continue closely monitoring the matter, placing pressure on authorities to respond decisively.
She described the controversy as an opportunity for Liberia to strengthen accountability within its security institutions, particularly in the handling of serious crimes such as drug trafficking.
Guar maintained that a credible and independent investigation could help clarify the allegations, restore public confidence, and contribute to improved leadership and accountability within Liberia’s law enforcement system.
