Monrovia, Liberia — The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) has called on the Government of Liberia to immediately renovate public schools across the country and establish a national program to support students transitioning from high school to university.
In a statement issued Thursday, August 20, SUP said many public schools remain overcrowded and poorly equipped, lacking adequate classrooms, furniture, laboratories, libraries, sanitation, electricity and learning materials.
The group is demanding a nationwide renovation program, particularly for schools in vulnerable communities, to provide students with safe and conducive learning environments.
SUP also called for a National High School-to-University Transition Program to provide scholarships, career guidance and financial assistance to qualified students who face difficulties entering university due to poverty and other financial barriers.
The organization further urged students, teachers, parents and civil society to unite in demanding quality, accessible and affordable education.
SUP said education must be treated as a national investment and pledged to continue advocating for students, academic freedom and improved educational standards across Liberia.
