The assigned Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, Civil Law Court Annex ‘B’, Nelson B. Chineh, has ruled in favor of Dr. C. Nelson Oniyama in a land dispute involving the estate of the late Martha Stubberfield Bernard.
The court found that Dr. Oniyama paid US$132,000 for 10 lots of land along Tubman Boulevard and that a valid agreement was signed between the parties in 2016.
Judge Chineh ordered the estate administrator, Ebrima Dempster, to complete the transfer of the property through a properly probated and registered deed.
The court ruled that the estate failed to honor its side of the agreement, leading to the decision in favor of Dr. Oniyama.
The property has been at the center of earlier disputes, including a separate ownership claim that previously led to the removal of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) from the site under Mr. Dempster’s administration.
Lawyers for the respondents have noted exceptions to the ruling and are expected to take the matter to the Supreme Court during its October 2026 term.
The case adds to ongoing concerns over land ownership disputes in Monrovia, where contested estates and overlapping claims continue to fuel court battles.
