Liberia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, has asserted that Liberians are beginning to experience the benefits of significant reforms across critical sectors, particularly health and education. His remarks come amid growing political tension and criticism aimed at the government’s development agenda.
In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Nyei defended the government’s ongoing transformation efforts, insisting that detractors are deliberately spreading misinformation to derail progress. “Those who are against the great transformations we have initiated in the various sectors want to spread lies and misinform our people,” he stated.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the government’s focus remains on delivering tangible results, regardless of political distractions. “Our primary responsibility is to deliver,” he said. “Our job and the impact we make will continue to speak for us as we already hear in the communities.”
Dr. Nyei further urged public officials and citizens to counter false narratives with verifiable achievements. Citing increased access to clean water, expanded electricity coverage, improved road infrastructure, and enhanced international partnerships, he painted a picture of a nation on the rise.
“Let’s widen the civic space so that they make ‘free comments’, while we tell the sacred truth of increased access… stronger health and education systems… a viable democracy and transparent and accountable governance,” he declared.
Quoting British journalist Charles P. Scott, Nyei concluded: “Comment is free, but facts are sacred,” stressing the need to uphold truth in public discourse.
Dr. Nyei’s comments reflect the administration’s broader effort to consolidate public trust and defend its record amidst ongoing political scrutiny.
