Embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa this morning held a meeting with President Joseph Boakai at the President’s rehab residence. The discussion was centered on the ongoing situation at the House of Representatives.
According to the information gathered, the meeting, initiated at the invitation of President Boakai, also included the presence of EPS Director Sam Gaye. During the discussions, President Boakai expressed his concern over the tense developments at the Capitol.
While he stopped short of directly advising Embattled Speaker Koffa to resign as pointed out by our source, President Boakai urged him to work collaboratively with his colleagues in the interest of peace and stability.
EPS Director Sam Gaye also appealed to Speaker Koffa, encouraging him to step back from the contentious situation. However, Embattled Speaker Koffa stood firm, insisting he would not resign.
During the meeting, Embattled Speaker Koffa emphasized that he cannot step down and that his colleagues must abide by the Supreme Court’s mandate. He also expressed his readiness to face any consequences, stating that the authorities could withdraw his security details if they wished, but he remained resolute in his stance.
