A local vegetable farmer in Bomi County is recording significant gains in agricultural production following specialized training and support provided through a partnership aimed at strengthening food security and sustainable farming practices.
Margaret Nigba-Gayedyu, a vegetable farmer who once struggled with poor seed quality and inadequate irrigation, has transformed her farming enterprise through a collaboration between Dukuly International Agriculture Company and Mercy Corps, funded by the Government of Sweden.
Margaret participated in a hands-on agricultural training program that equipped her with improved farming techniques and provided ongoing technical support. The initiative also connected her to reliable markets and supplied essential farming inputs, including fertilizer.
As a result, her vegetable production has increased substantially, with her produce now consistently selling out on the market.
The increased income has enabled Margaret to reinvest in her farm by purchasing high-quality seeds and fertilizer. She has also expanded efforts to build the capacity of her workers in composting techniques, further improving productivity and sustainability.
Margaret’s success story highlights the impact of targeted agricultural interventions in empowering local farmers, increasing food production, and strengthening livelihoods in rural communities across Liberia.
“The support has helped me improve both the quality and quantity of my produce,” Margaret said, noting that the training has transformed her farming business and created new opportunities for growth.
