Liberia’s newly appointed head coach, Mohammed A. Erradi, began his tenure with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Sierra Leone in an international friendly played Saturday at the Southern Arena Stadium in Freetown.
Erradi, taking charge of the Lone Star for the first time, adopted a defensive approach, deploying a back line that included George Wallace, Jamal Arago, Natu Swen, Philip Tarnue, and Emmanuel Fully.
The Liberian defense remained organized throughout much of the encounter and successfully held the hosts to a goalless first half. However, Sierra Leone broke the deadlock after the break, scoring the game’s lone goal to secure victory over their West African neighbors.
Despite the defeat, the match marked the start of a new era for Liberia under Erradi, who was recently appointed to lead the national team. The coach is expected to use the fixture as an opportunity to assess his squad and build towards future competitions.
The two neighboring countries are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, June 9, when Liberia hosts Sierra Leone at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The return fixture will offer the Lone Star a chance to bounce back and earn its first result under Erradi’s leadership.
