ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County – Grand Gedeh University (GGU) has announced a landmark partnership with Cuttington University to establish a graduate school on its main campus in Zwedru, marking a significant step toward expanding access to higher education in southeastern Liberia.
According to a statement issued by GGU’s Department of Communication on Thursday, July 2, the partnership will take effect next semester and will enable students to pursue Master’s and Doctorate degree programs without leaving the region.
Under the agreement, all graduate lectures, seminars, thesis defenses, and other academic activities will be conducted at Grand Gedeh University, while degrees will be awarded by Cuttington University, one of Liberia’s oldest accredited institutions of higher learning.
The initial graduate programs will include Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Education, Public Administration, Development Studies, and Business Administration. University authorities said additional accredited graduate programs will be introduced over time based on student demand.
GGU officials described the collaboration as a strategic effort to decentralize higher education and strengthen human capital development in southeastern Liberia. They noted that the initiative will reduce the financial and logistical burden on students who previously had to relocate to Bong or Montserrado counties to pursue graduate studies.
To formally introduce the partnership, the university recently hosted an Open House and Information Session on the GGU campus for prospective students, alumni, stakeholders, and members of the public.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major milestone for higher education in southeastern Liberia. They believe the partnership will expand access to advanced academic qualifications, produce more highly trained professionals, and contribute to the region’s long-term development.
