Girls and young women across Liberia are mobilizing to take a leading role in the fight against climate change through the Girl-led Action on Climate Change (GLACC) project.
The initiative, implemented by the Liberia Girl Guides Association (LGGA) with support from the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), is currently being implemented in Montserrado, Bomi and Grand Bassa counties, with Margibi expected to join soon.
The project seeks to equip girls and young women with the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand climate risks, advocate for action and lead solutions in their communities.
It also seeks to address the disproportionate impact of climate change on girls and young women, who are often left out of climate discussions and decision-making processes.
As part of efforts to strengthen the project, a three-day Training of Trainers (TOT) refresher training is currently underway to prepare trainers to lead the initiative across the targeted counties.
Through GLACC, organizers hope to see more girls and young women taking leadership roles, advocating for climate action and implementing community-based solutions to reduce the effects of climate change.
The initiative underscores the growing call for girls and young women to move from the margins of climate discussions to the center of climate action and decision-making.
